Today in class we discussed the sports data project. We broke into groups and did a group building activity by learning about each other. I learned that Jared Adams has a beard, likes music, transfered from HAC, plays the guitar and bass, likes tea, and works at a grocery store and the computer lab.
I learned that Paul Ware has never seen James Bond, he's a gamer, his favorite game is Tekken, he's a senior and a transfer from Lincoln University, and he hates writing. Devin Drennen is a sophomore, she has screws in her knee from a volleyball injury, she likes music, she likes the eagles, she's been to Hawaii and Alaska, and she works for her family business. Samantha Piersol is a junior, she is a transfer, likes music, toured with a friend's band, went to Haiti, started as a business major, and grew up on a farm. We then talked about what we know about hockey and posted it to the wordpress site. After that we played a simulation of hockey and learned how it works just by playing a few games.

Play Game Online
We had to play a simulation of hockey online. It was very difficult because you can't control all of the players, only the one that has the puck. You also had to use the mouse to choose where to shoot. Something I learned was a crease fault/penalty which was the other team going into the goalie box. It was also hard to try and pass the puck to other players which is vital to hockey in order the get the puck away from the other team.
What we know about Hockey
There's two teams versus each other. The main goal is to get the puck in the goal. Played on ice. 10 people are on the ice at one time. When a player commits a penalty, they go to a box for a certain amount of time according to severity of penalty. Gear includes stick, skates, helmets, and padding. High sticking is a penalty where the stick goes above the shoulders or head, not sure which one. Not always played inside. Start in the middle of the rink, and there is a face off to initiate the game. Whoever wins that face off gets possession of the puck. 2 members of the team cannot go past the halfway mark or else an offsides penalty. Goalie guards the goal. Not allowed to go very far from the goal. Overtime may include shoot off or extra time. Three 15 minute periods are the duration of the game. Slapshot is a strong form of an attempted goal shot. Players are allowed to check other players in a form of stealing the puck. Zambonis are required to maintain clean ice for the players to skate on in the middle of the game. If puck goes out of play, the puck is dropped at the nearest of 5 faceoff spots. Team with the most points win. Players are allowed to pass the puck to each other. No holding limit of puck per player. Goalie is the only one who can use hands unless a puck is above someone's head, then they can knock it down in front of them. Known for violence within the sport. Substitutions are allowed as long as one player goes on and goes off. Each goal is one unit. Penalty shots happens after a certain type of penalty. There are two refs on the ice. Teams are possibly divided into divisions. Winner of the season gets the Stanley cup, as well as their team name and year engraved on it. Goal starts face off in the middle again.

Week1A
Today in class we went over the syllabus and the course as a whole. After that we spent some time watching videos about what user experience is and what usability is. We went into groups to determine what usability means and discussed what usability includes. Not only is it about the user and the media/product, but it is about the ease in which a user can navigate that. After that we took more notes on what usability is.
